TURN Service

FOR LIVE GUIDED TOURS

Some corporate networks and strict firewalls are incompatible with the free Peer-to-Peer based Live Guided Tours offered by 3DVista. That’s what we developed LGT with TURN for: It detects those users who have difficulties connecting through the free version and connects them through a relay server. It’s like an insurance that only jumps in when there’s a problem. That saves you using (and paying) unnecessary bandwidth.

Choose
Your Plan

The TURN Service comes with different bandwidth plans and for different durations (1,2,3,6 or 12 months). Choose your plan according to the number of users and connections you expect to connect through a relay server (because they are behind strict firewalls or symmetric NATs as is often the case with corporate networks).

How do I monitor my bandwidth usage?

Go to cloud.3dvista.com, log in with your 3DVista credentials and go to "bandwidth" section, you will see a progress bar of how much of your monthly TURN bandwidth you have already used up and a history of past dates.
3DVista will also send you two notification emails: One as soon as you reach 50%, and a second as soon as you reach 80% of your monthly TURN bandwidth. This gives you the option to react and upgrade your plan if you expect to surpass your monthly total. Remember that 3DVista will not upgrade or charge you automatically.

FAQs

What is the TURN service?
Communication between participants in Live Guided Tours is normally sent through peer-to-peer connections, where audio and video streams are sent directly between participants. In cases where a user is behind a strict firewall or symmetric NAT, Peer-to-Peer service may not be able to start a connection. That’s when you would need to use TURN (Transversal Using Relays around NAT) servers to relay the communication and establish the connection. 3DVista offers a number of TURN plans that act as an insurance for every user who has problems connecting through the free Peer-to-Peer service.

Can I use TURN with tours hosted in my own server?
Yes, of course. You can use the TURN service both for tours hosted on your own servers and on 3DVista Hosting.

Can I use my TURN account for all my tours?
Yes, you can use your TURN account for all your tours. Just open the project in VT PRO, click on the Publish button, introduce the TURN credentials and enable it for that tour in the "for Web" section. Publish and reupload to your server or 3DVista Cloud.

Can I have different TURN accounts for different clients?
Yes, you can contract different plans for different users (even if you only have one VT PRO license). Each TURN account will have its own username and password to be inserted in the LGT section of a tour’s Publish window. Just insert the individual TURN credentials in the respective tour’s publish window and you’ll have perfectly separate bandwidth counts for each client.

Can I track the use of my TURN bandwidth?
Yes, you can monitor the use that your tours make of the TURN bandwidth in real time from the control panel: cloud.3dvista.com. You will also receive two notification emails: One as soon as you reach 50%, and a second as soon as you reach 80% of your monthly TURN bandwidth. This gives you plenty of time to react and upgrade your plan if you expect to surpass your monthly total.

Can I modify/expand my plan on the fly if I see that I will run out of GBs?
Yes, you can extend or reduce the bandwidth and duration of your TURN plan from the 3DVista cloud control panel: cloud.3dvista.com
Your plans will not renew, update or upgrade automatically.

If a customer wants to purchase the TURN service and manage it himself, can he purchase the service without owning a 3DVista license?
Yes, no problem. He only has to give you the user and pass so you can activate it in in his tour when publishing in VT PRO.

Will my Turn bandwidth be used only when needed?
Yes, only if it is necessary the Turn service is activated. In calls where the service is not necessary, it is not used and it is saved for future calls.
